DIET FOR OVERACTIVE BLADDER (OAB)

🚫 FOODS & DRINKS TO AVOID / LIMIT (THEY IRRITATE THE BLADDER)
Caffeine: Coffee, strong tea, energy drinks, cola
Alcohol: Beer, wine, spirits
Carbonated drinks: Soda, soft drinks
Spicy foods: Chili, hot sauces, pickles
Citrus fruits & juices: Orange, lemon, grapefruit (can irritate bladder in some people)
Tomato products: Tomato soup, ketchup, sauces
Artificial sweeteners: Diet soda, sugar-free chewing gum
Chocolate & cocoa (contain caffeine + bladder irritants)
Very salty food: Chips, packaged snacks, processed meats
✅ FOODS AND DRINKS RECOMMENDED:
Water: Adequate hydration (2–2.5 L/day, unless restricted by your doctor). Don’t overdrink at once – spread water intake through the day.
Non-citrus fruits: Banana, apple, pear, watermelon, papaya, grapes
Vegetables: Cabbage, cauliflower, cucumber, bottle gourd, pumpkin, beans
Whole grains: Rice, wheat, oats
Lean protein: Fish, chicken (moderate), pulses, dal
Low-fat dairy: Milk, curd, paneer (if tolerated)
Herbal teas: Chamomile, peppermint (instead of caffeinated tea)
🥗 ADDITIONAL TIPS:
Avoid drinking large amounts of fluid just before bedtime.
Maintain a healthy weight – obesity worsens OAB symptoms.
Keep a bladder diary (food, drinks, urination frequency) to identify personal triggers.
Prefer fiber-rich foods (vegetables, fruits, whole grains) to prevent constipation, which can worsen OAB
