FOODS TO AVOID (DEPENDING ON STONE TYPE)
1. High Oxalate Foods (common cause of calcium oxalate stones):
Spinach, beetroot, sweet potato
Nuts (cashew, almond, peanuts)
Chocolate, cocoa
Tea (especially black tea in excess)
Soy products
Tomato (seeds especially)
2. High Salt Foods
Pickles, papad, sauces
Processed foods (chips, packaged snacks)
Restaurant/fast foods
3. High Animal Protein
Red meat (mutton, beef)
Organ meat (liver, kidney, brain)
Excess chicken, fish, eggs (limit, don’t completely avoid unless advised)
4. Excess Calcium Supplements
Avoid unnecessary calcium tablets without doctor’s advice.
5. Sugary Drinks
Cola, packaged fruit juices, energy drinks
FOODS RECOMMENDED
Water: Drink 2.5–3 liters/day (unless restricted for heart/kidney disease).
Citrus Fruits: Lemon, orange, sweet lime (help prevent stone formation).
Low-fat dairy: Milk, curd in moderation.
Whole grains: Rice, wheat, oats.
Fruits: Apple, pear, watermelon, papaya, banana.
Vegetables: Cabbage, cauliflower, peas, cucumber, bottle gourd, pumpkin.
Adequate calcium from food (not supplements): 1 glass milk/day or curd.
